ASAP Student Board Member

The Carlisle County KY Agency for Substance Abuse Program, also known as ASAP, is looking for a student representative from grades 6-12 to be a member of the ASAP Board.  We need one representative and one alternate from each grade.

The ASAP Board is a collective group of community leaders from various organizations and the ASAP Coordinator in the Carlisle County School District, Amy Guhy.

Our main goal is to provide/support programs in the school district that promote living a substance free life by making positive life choices.  We want the students to provide the Board with insight on their peer’s lives and to give us ideas on programs that the students want to participate in to promote a substance free life.

Students may pick up an application in the Middle or High School office.  They will be required to obtain two teacher referrals and have a parent/guardian signature.  Forms need to be turned back in by Aug. 20, 2018.  An election will be held on Aug. 27, 2018.  Candidates may make posters and/or flyers to hand out to their classmates.

CCMS Summer Reading Program
CCMS had some student poems read on WKMS!!

The poetry minutes for National Poetry Month this year come from the 6th grade class of Carlisle County Middle School in Bardwell, KY. The Kentucky Arts Council partnered with the Kentucky Historical Society and centered the theme around Kentucky's history of voting. The student poets were inspired by a specific work of art, "County Election 1852" by George Caleb Bingham. Perspectives from the painting range from the voters, the buildings, and a dog included in frame.
Constance Alexander, a prolific poet and advocate for the arts, visited Sounds Good to discuss the KY Art Council's poetry minutes in honor of National Poetry Month. She recites several selections from Carlisle Middle School entries, and also discusses upcoming celebratory events, including a poetry reading at the Calloway County Public Library on April 23rd at 6 p.m.

6th Grade Bucket Drumming

Hello everyone,

My first few months at Carlisle have been wonderful! I just wanted to give everyone an insight to what I’ve been up to so far...the Friday before Spring Break, my 6th graders performed bucket drumming at the Comet Pride Assembly. I’m incredibly proud of them and wanted to share their performance with the rest of Carlisle Co. If you follow this link, https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4prsxtpwjf084rz/48bfiBMW2e, you can watch a video of our performance. I’m excited for the future of the music program here at Carlisle!

Thank you,

Christina Stanfield
