This is my fourth year at CCHS and I am excited to once again have freshmen and juniors for English 1 and English 3, respectively. I am also incredibly excited to once again be the Yearbook Adviser! I am expecting my first child in November, and will be out for a few weeks on maternity leave then.
The first nine weeks will have English 1 students learning a little about the origins of our language, reviewing (and learning!) parts of speech, punctuation rules, and writing a personal narrative. My English 3 students will begin learning about American Literature, the first portion of which starts with Native American writings and continues to 1750. After reading Native American origin myths, the students will write personal narratives/memoirs to examine their unique identities and explain why they are the way they are. We will then read Arthur Miller's The Crucible and a few other shorter texts before Fall Break.
My Yearbook staff is eager to begin working on this year's annual. They have a really fun (secret) theme in mind that will allow them to showcase our school and students in a fresh way. This year's staff will also be the first to take the class as a Journalism class and will learn the basics of journalistic writing, photography, marketing, and layout and design.
If you have any questions or concerns, email is the best way to contact me as phone calls interrupt and take away from instruction time.
