The first feature transportation staff member for this year is Kathy Meinders. Kathy has been a transportation employee at Carlisle County Schools for 9 years. Prior to driving a bus, Kathy was a substitute teacher in the school system. Kathy, a 1989 graduate of Carlisle County High School, is married and has one child that attends Murray State University. Kathy also works part time in a nursing home and she says that she “Has the best of both worlds because of getting to work with the elderly and the young.” Kathy starting driving a bus at the encouragement of Bob Wilson, former Transportation Director, and because of her love for kids. Kathy enjoys taking field trips and being around the students. Kathy is also one of the Driver Trainers for the district, a task that she took on in order to help make sure that competent drivers are in place for the students of Carlisle County. Kathy enjoys staying busy working and knitting and plans to, despite all of the driving she already does, travel when she retires. She noted that she will continue to drive a bus as long as she can. Kathy has been a model employee, taking on extra tasks and working through personal adversity regarding the health of family members throughout the beginning of this school year. “I applaud Mrs. Meinders and beginning this recognition program because our bus drivers play a key role in the operation of our district,” commented Randy McCallon, Superintendent. “Carlisle County Schools and the community are fortunate to have Kathy and, as Director of Transportation, I thank her for her service”, says Dustin Roberts.
