Governor's Scholars Program (GSP)

The deadline to submit an application to the office for GSP is Friday, December 3.  If you are interested in applying the process is lengthy, so it would be a good idea to get started as soon as possible.

The Governor’s Scholars Program is a free 5-week summer residential program for outstanding high school students in Kentucky, and it is designed for students to attend the summer after their junior year.  The Program originated in 1983 because of Kentucky leaders’ concern that the state’s “best and brightest” were leaving the Commonwealth to pursue educational and career opportunities elsewhere without fully understanding the potential of their talents at home. Students who are selected attend the Program without charge. In the spirit of partnership, the Office of the Governor, the Kentucky State Legislature, and private enterprise come together to provide the financial support for the Program.  Students who participate in the program will have unique college scholarship opportunities.

Applications may be downloaded from their website.  Before reaching the statewide competition, each student must first submit his or her application through his or her school and participate in a district level competition.  Only those students selected and submitted by their district may compete in the statewide selection process.
