2020-2021 Instructional Update - 7/27/20

 Instruction Options for 2020-2021

2020-2021 Back to School Update - 7/14/20

Good morning! We wanted to provide you with a few updates. First, we want to let you all know that our One Call system is down so please try to help spread the word about these updates with anyone that you think has an interest. We appreciate your help with that. Secondly, thank you all for your patience. We have been trying to consult with other districts and absorb all the guidance that we receive from the Kentucky Department of Education and local health officials in order to make good decisions regarding the health of not only our school community, but the community as a whole. After all things have been considered our board determined last night that we would push our start date back to August 24, 2020. This start date offers a couple of advantages to our district. First, it allows us to align more closely with Mayfield Independent which is important because we send students to their district for instruction at the Mayfield Area Technical Center. Next, this start date allows us to take advantage of a law that provides for what is referred to as a Variable Student Instructional Calendar as long as start on or after August 24, 2020. This law provides for us to not have to meet the 170 day requirement of a traditional calendar, but still requires us to meet the 1062 hour component of the traditional calendar. We can restructure our schedule to meet those hours with minimal impact to our normal hours of operation on a daily basis. You are still afforded the same options with regard to how you determine your student(s) with receive instruction this year. Finally, this start date gives our staff more time to prepare for having students both in class and in the home setting. We have not taken away the options of either attending in person or staying home in a "NTI" type setting. As always, we look forward to working with you and your children. Please don't hesitate to contact the board office with any questions or concerns.

Message from Superintendent Jay Simmons

I believe during these different times communication is even more important than usual. To that end, I am going to start blogging as often as possible to continually get out information you may need or want. I can't promise it will be every day, but I am going to try.  Here is a link to the blog, this link can also be found on our district Facebook page if you would like to share or save it:

NTI Information - 4/21/20

Good Morning. I wanted to provide you with an update regarding the remainder of the school year. As most of you have heard, Governor Beshear has asked that we not resume in person classes this school year. We have also been provided with some time allowance for our NTI days that will allow us to finish our required instructional time a little earlier than expected. Our last day for students for the 19-20 school year will be Friday May 8. We will be dropping off the last packet, which will contain 1 week of work, on Friday May 1 via bus routes or in school pick up as we have done in the past weeks. We will continue our lunch locations through Friday May 15 except for on May 1 when we will deliver lunches with packets via bus or in person pick up in the cafeteria. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation during this difficult time. We are here to provide assistance if we can help in any way.

NTI Information - 4/19/20

In order to continue to promote social distancing, we will have a change in our food service delivery for this week and going forward. Starting Monday, we will be delivering meals to the same locations but only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Each of those days, two meals (breakfasts and lunches), may be picked up each day. A one call will be made announcing this as well. Thank you and please call the board office if you have any questions.

NTI Information - 4/3/20

Good Morning! We hope everyone is doing great! We have a few updates this morning. First, as most of you have probably seen on the news, Governor Beshear has asked that we extend our current NTI situation through May 1. We will be continuing with new packets going home on Tuesday April 14 and those packets will contain 3 weeks of work. We will be distributing via bus(we will do food this way on Tuesday as well since we will already be coming around to homes) as we have the past two times and we will collect completed work at that time as well. Just drop your completed work back into the envelope and hand to us at that time. You also have the option to come to the buildings between 10-5 on Tuesday the 14th to pick up or turn in work. After Tuesday we will be available for pick up or drop off in the buildings from 10-1 each weekday. Remember, we are on Spring Break next week so there will be no food services or instructional services taking place. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone that has worked to provide meals at this time. Our cafeteria staff has been exceptional both in work production and attitude and I want them to know we appreciate them. If you get the opportunity to send one of them a message, you should do it! Enjoy your Spring Break! Stay safe, follow social distancing orders and find time to do things that you enjoy!

NTI Information - 3/18/2020

HS students and parents, report cards were sent out in packets on Monday. Assignments in the packets are due on Monday, March 23rd when we distribute the next packets. Work in the new packets will be for the next ten days and will not be picked up until after spring break. Some teachers have sent home extra work in packets already, so just pay attention to the due dates on assignments. Please communicate with teachers via email or by calling the HS office at 270-628-3800 if you need assistance with assignments. College dual-credit students, check Blackboard, Canvas, or Google Classroom regularly, so you will not get behind on your college assignments. Also, email your professors if you need help.

Although this is a difficult situation we are all dealing with, this is a good opportunity to learn email etiquette:
1. Include a clear subject line
2. Use a formal greeting: Dear Mrs. Doe or Dear Professor Doe
3. Be clear, succinct (get to the point), and polite
4. Sign off with a Thank you and your name if you don’t have an email signature
5. Use standard English grammar, punctuation, and spelling
6. Remember like all digital media, emails are forever.
7. Wait patiently for a response to your email

NTI Information - 3/17/2020

HS students, please check your email regularly. For those of you who have internet access, your teachers will communicate with you through email to answer questions about this week’s assignments and to send you next week’s assignments.

Seniors, Jackson Purchase Energy Scholarship must be postmarked today. We will be emailing you more scholarship information.

As per the one call sent out by Mr. Simmons, based on the recommendation of Governor Andy Beshear, Carlisle County Schools will be closed for for the remainder of the next two weeks(through March 29). This message is being sent to provide you with some time to arrange for child care. We will be implementing Non-Traditional Instruction Days (a way to provide instruction at home) during that time, but you will receive more information about that in the coming days. In the spirit of this closure, please follow all guidance of the governmental agencies with regard to social gatherings. Thank you and we will communicate with you again soon.

ASAP Student Board Member

The Carlisle County KY Agency for Substance Abuse Program, also known as ASAP, is looking for a student representative from grades 6-12 to be a member of the ASAP Board.  We need one representative and one alternate from each grade.

The ASAP Board is a collective group of community leaders from various organizations and the ASAP Coordinator in the Carlisle County School District, Amy Guhy.

Our main goal is to provide/support programs in the school district that promote living a substance free life by making positive life choices.  We want the students to provide the Board with insight on their peer’s lives and to give us ideas on programs that the students want to participate in to promote a substance free life.

Students may pick up an application in the Middle or High School office.  They will be required to obtain two teacher referrals and have a parent/guardian signature.  Forms need to be turned back in by Aug. 20, 2018.  An election will be held on Aug. 27, 2018.  Candidates may make posters and/or flyers to hand out to their classmates.
